The historic Tygart Hotel in Elkins, West Virginia, has undergone an extensive renovation that will soon become a 56-room boutique hotel. Built in 1907, the hotel will include a full restaurant and bar, Blossoms, on the first floor and a small banquet room that will lead out to a balcony on the second floor. The modern, comfortable rooms will highlight the culture, arts, and landscape of Elkins as well as the region. King, queen, double queen, and king suites will be available for guests.
After purchasing the Tygart Hotel in 2017, the Woodlands Development Group came up with a plan to restore the historic building and turn it into a hotel. The Mills Group, which is the project’s architect, was hired by Woodlands Development for the renovation project. Woodlands Development Group and the four non traditional lending sources – Partner Community Capital, Davis Trust, Freedom Bank, and Pendleton Community Bank – played an important role in funding this project.
Taylor Hospitality, a leading national hospitality management company based out of Waynesboro, Virginia, is set to begin pre-opening operations of the hotel this summer. Taylor Hospitality is committed to creating an inviting accommodation that captures local culture while offering visitors high-end services they can rely on time after time. CEO Sean Taylor expressed his enthusiasm for this project, “It has been tremendously rewarding for our team to work with the Woodlands Group, The Mills Group and so many great individuals throughout the Elkins community to bring the Tygart Hotel to life. Elkins is positioned for amazing growth over the next decades and we are thrilled to be a part of this growth. We believe unequivocally in what West Virginia Tourism has to offer and are proud of our many team members who call West Virginia home and right now we are recruiting the best in hospitality within the state to help us launch the Tygart Hotel to be the premier hospitality property that the entire community is proud of.”
The Tygart Hotel promises to be an exciting addition to Elkins’ downtown district, offering modern amenities with historical charm that can only be found through their unique offerings.
Visitors can expect modern luxurious comfortable rooms inspired by the lost train towns of West Virginia and plenty of space for relaxation and have access to nearby attractions like hiking trails, train rides, museums, and more.
This project marks a new chapter for Elkins’ historic downtown district, with revitalization projects like this bringing life back into the city center. The Tygart Hotel is set to open its doors in late September 2023; bringing new life into Elkins’ downtown district while preserving its rich history and culture – setting it up for success among travelers near and far, just in time for the Mountain State Forest Festival.
